Snow Day

Overnight we had a light dusting of snow, and basically the whole city has shut down since. And I don't blame them. I almost died trying to get a couple pictures of the "snow" out on my front driveway this morning. Treacherours conditions, indeed. But no seriously. Be careful this morning, fellow Texans! That ice is slick!

Yesterday I took the day "off" to run errands and drive all over tarnation looking for a chest of drawers to put in my office, only to wind up coming home defeated and empty-handed, and so frustrated that there was still so much stuff strewn about my office floor and nowhere to put it, that I forced Matthew to bring the large Pottery Barn buffet cabinet we'd been keeping in the garage (since we downsized, a lot of our old stuff doesn't fit in the new place) into my office so I could have some storage space already, damn it. So now I am utilizing a rather oddly placed dining room buffet that smells faintly of mold from our flooded Pod, and you know what? It's a place to put shit until further notice, and I literally breathed a sigh of relief to see a my tidy office space this morning. Snow day + clean office + tortilla soup in the crock pot + editing & coffee = my idea of a fairly nice Friday. :)

Hope you all have a fabulous weekend, and I'll see you back here next week!

  1. Texas has snow?! I haven't even seen snow in Germany this winter and Texas has it? What cosmic flippery is this?! Jealous. But enjoy your coffee and clean office and snow...I guess. ;) ;) xx

  2. I've been on a furniture quest lately too - for a TV console. Have you signed up for Joss&Main? A total tease because everything is cute and fleeting and significantly cheaper than other websites, so you're pressured to buy. But, everything is cute. I've seen a lot of stuff that seems like it would fit what you're looking for!

  3. OMG. I loved when it snowed in Dallas. Everyone freaked out and we would watch the news at 7am to see if school was cancelled. Best days ever.

  4. I've been struggling the past couple of hours between going outside to take pictures of this mess and staying in bed where it's warm.

  5. I went outside for a whole five minutes to take pictures and now I'm back in bed doing homework. Class was cancelled today, thank God. My roommates are from Houston and one told me this was her fourth snow day ever.

  6. Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do! & I think it's so weird that all of Central & South Texas has snow & ice but, NONE in North Texas!! Bring it on!! LOL!

  7. My sister lives in New Braunfels (we are from MO) and we were laughing back and forth at how the city shut down until noon. Just find it funny how different regions are used to different conditions. Bring your hot and melty summers up here and we would all die, for sure. (although in our defense we still get 100+ days with 100% humidity - it just doesn't last long - thank goodness!)

  8. Have a great weekend! I can't wait to see photos of the house once you've gotten it together, I love your decorating style! Also, would you mind sharing the crock pot tortilla soup recipe?

  9. I can't believe there is snow in Texas and not a speck of it here in Bulgaria. We usually have a full-blown winter, and while I am not a fan of the cold, it's quite pretty when everything is white and fluffy. Not this year. This year we have had absolutely no snow...nada. I even whined about it on my blog just yesterday: http://kosebose-nest.blogspot.com/2014/01/a-snowless-winter.html

  11. It's been snowing just about every other day since December 1st here in Chicago. I'm so ready for Spring!! Sigh... but until then I'm enjoying hot chocolate and curling up in bed with a book. Stay safe!

  13. Having grown up in Chicago, I'm puzzled by the whole state shutting down...but there were enough accidents on the road to prove that they were right! Hopefully that was the last one of the arctic blasts. ;)

  18. Here in Alabama we got a small dusting as well. Nothing to shake a stick at but shut the town down all the same. I can totally relate to this. Life is total chaos right now and my office is a crazy mess and as a new massage therapist I have sheets and laundry piled to the moon! I'm gonna take your advice and use what I got to make it work for now and calm the freak down.

  20. Be careful with the ice! It's so funny how warm-weather cities shut down with a little bit of snow. I totally understand the messy office frustration - I can't work when my office isn't straight!
