My sweater has elbow patches, does yours?

Fashion is such a funny thing. So subjective, don't you think? Just like anything else, I suppose... food, photography, taste in novels and blogs, the way we like our homes decorated, the way we need the dishwasher to be loaded, so-help-me-God.... all very subjective. We like what we like. And personally, I like stripes, and I like elbow patches, and when you put them together, MY MIND IS BLOWN.

In other news, I got a haircut yesterday (right after these pictures were taken). Yes, this is blog-worthy, as it's been over a year since my last one, and since I've been starting to get mean comments saying things along the lines of "cut-your-hair-you-disgusting-good-for-nothing-human-being-with-sickeningly-long-hair." OK, not exactly that. But close.

So I went to a new salon and got this little old Asian lady hair stylist (is it OK to say that she was Asian? I'm never sure about these things. I think it's important because her accent was cute and it adds to the story), and I'm pretty sure she was horrified by me when I arrived. I told her I needed a shampoo, trim, and blow dry, and her look of horror melted into actual fear at the prospect of having to do all of those things. "Are you sure you don't want just trim? Save you money that way. It thirty-five dollar extra for style. You can dry at home." And I was like, "ummm... OK. Sure. Let's do that." And she was making all these little "tsk-tsk" noises while she combed out my hair which, in her defense, truly WAS a rat's nest due to the fact that I hadn't straightened it, it had been in a braid for a while, and the humidity outside was 100%. I kept apologizing to her for the state of things, but anyway, it went well. She did a good job.

Here's the rest of the photos of today's outfit, and be sure and enter for your chance to win a Tailor and Stylist (where my shirt is from) shop credit below!

not sure what was happening here. this picture is so awkward, I had to include it.

  3. Oh, the dishwasher. I literally have to walk away when my husband loads it. I have always loved elbow patches on chunky sweaters (they make me feel professorial), and I'm pleased to see them extended to other pieces. Great giveaway!

  6. been a creeper for a while on your blog now, jenni, because it's been a long time since i last left a comment, but since you asked about the asian part, i am asian and i don't mind if i'm being referred to as asian. and if you visit asia, a lot of countries don't speak english and in english-speaking asian countries, you'll really notice a different accent. okay, i'm babbling now and i'm not sure if i'm making any sense haha! i saw your haircut on instagram... very pretty!

take care, jenni! God bless! <3 :-)

  8. Don't mind me, I might blab on a tad :) First off, I'm totally on your side with stripes and more so if they have elbow pads!!
Second, new hair dressers scare me, so props to you for giving this lady a chance. I think I would have been running out the door with the first googly eye she gave my way. Luckily, my best friend is my hair dresser and has been for years now.
Thirdly, I give you credit and appreciate how comfortable you are with your readers, I too have a blog and I spend so many hours starring at my pictures making sure I won't be judged for something silly or checking to see if I'm looking a little funky in one. To know that you included a picture of yourself only to know that you thought it looked awkward you could help yourself is refreshing and changes my view on things a little.

Your blog is awesome and I love reading everyday <3

  12. This is one of my favorite fashion posts you've done! Also, one time I got a pedicure (it had been... awhile) and I mumbled an apology as I sat down. The lady took my feet out of the soaking tub, looked at them and then looked at me... held my gaze for more than a few uncomfortable seconds.... and shook her head slowly. I felt I had failed as a woman.

  13. in a weird way, I'm proud of you for finally getting a haircut! not that your hair choices affect my life at all; it just horrifies me to think of going a year without cutting my own hair. I start to cranky with the state of my ends after about 3 months, which is usually a signal that I need a trim. but then again, every girl has her own preferences, you know? we're all allowed to do whatever we want with our hair.

  16. hahaha new stylists always try to talk me out of a blow dry too, i think they're horrified at the prospect of drying/straightening my super thick curly hair too. :) love that sweater!

  17. That jumper is amazing. I love the shade of blue! Weird thing to focus on I know.

My hair is so thick that for years stylists ran screaming for me. When I finally found one I liked I decided to never let go, even though it means I only get my hair cut when I fly into Scotland. It sounds pretty cosmopolitan, and not crazy, to say I fly several hundred miles to get my hair cut, right?

  19. Hahaha...not offensive at all to add that she was Asian. I don't think so at least--in my experience Asians always do a great job with my hair! You look great! :)

  26. Haircut! FIANLLY! kidding :) It's sweet of you to apologize for what the humidity did to your hair, but I'm sure the hairstylist has seen that before. It being Austin and all :)

  27. Yes. This was the time to get a haircut. I got my first haircut in over 6 months on Thursday. It's so short now. Not really, because like you I had wayyyyy toooo long of a rats nest thing going on. But it's nice to shave off time in the brushing department now!

I love the elbow patches. Every new sweater I bought the hubs this year has elbow patches. They are rather awesome and so old school feeling!

  28. Can I just say that I'm amazingly jealous that you look amazing in hats! I always try to pull them off and it doesn't work for me. Something about the fact that my hair isn't thick enough to pull off a truly great braid underneath!

I just discovered your blog and absolutely love it! I have just recently discovered that I like elbow patches and it looks great with the stripes! It's also struck some ideas for my next photoshoot!
