My new ride

Yeeeeeeah buddy, I got me a bicycle! Actually, my mom got me a bicycle, presumably because she was concerned by my inactivity and also because she got a bicycle and wanted someone to ride around with.

It should be noted that this particular bicycle is neon yellow, has a basket and a bell, and has been dubbed "Daphne." For some reason I feel the need to name inanimate objects and, admittedly, pretend like they're my friends. Perhaps that has something to do with being homeschooled most of my childhood...?

Daphne and I will have good times together. Good times, indeed.

shout out to Bicycle Sport Shop on South Lamar! thanks for taking excellent care of us!

And now for today's featured sponsors! First up is Bouffe e Bambini, a life and style blog by Hanna. Hanna is a mama, nurse, runner, amazing cook, and lover of fashion. Yep, this woman wears a lot of hats!  You can expect raw and honest posts from her (like this one), a great archive of recipes, as well as inspiring stories about obstacles she's overcome and paths she's walked down (like her incredible weight loss story here). Hanna is currently pregnant with bambini #3, due SOON, so, YAY for babies! Go say hello to Hanna!

Next is a super awesome blog by one of the funniest ladies I've "met" - Taylor of the Daily Tay. Have you been? I tried to find some extra funny posts to link you to, but then I realized that would be ALL OF THEM.  Do you suffer from WUD disorder like Taylor does? (I know I do!) Or perhaps you should stop by here and read about blogger faux pas, from Taylor's point of view. Good stuff, folks, good stuff. Get to know Taylor more here, and get ready to immediately add her to your reader and also  quite possibly develop a massive girl-crush. Go!

Next up is Caley and her sweet blog Ellie Love.  Caley documents the growth of her gorgeous daughter and family life over in Durban, South Africa... waaaay across the pond, for us here in the U.S.! Head on over here to read a little about Caley and her cute husband (how gorgeous are their wedding photos?!) or learn a wee bit more about her here or here. You can just sense Caley's sweet personality right through the screen! Go say hello!

  4. Love, love, LOVE that bike! It's the cutest! I, too, name inanimate objects! It gives them character. At least thats what I say to make myself feel better ;)

  5. Love the yellow color!! I also name inanimate objects, so it's totally not a homeschool thing.
Example: I have a lime green dining room chest named Flo, and my Crock Pot's name is Agnes. We're besties4life, Aggie, Flo, and me.

  6. I seriously thought I was the only one who named random objects, so funny! I think it has a lot to do with me being an only child and is also something I have done since childhood. I love reading your blog and looking at your pictures. You have a wonderful creative eye! I'm checking out the Daily Tay right now and she is too cute! Thanks for being such an inspiration :)

    Have a lovely weekend!

  7. Ummm... do you have a post about being homeschooled? Or do you mind if I ask you some questions? Also, I love your bike! Why don't I ride to Austin in my red Schwinn (with a wicker basket!) and we'll ride around town together? Yes? Spleeeeendid.

  8. Diggin' the bike! Mine is currently covered in snow and salt, boo. But it was cheap off Craigslist...I'm thinking once we move to Arkansas in July I'm going to invest in a nicer one :)

  9. I love your bike! That yellow is so perfect! You are just adorable! :)

  10. Love that bike! And I name my car, so I find this perfectly normal.

  11. Why do you feel the need to ruin, what was once, a quality blog with CONSTANT shout-outs to companies or restaurants, sponsors, and/or other blogs? While I understand your whole "Friday Features" thing, the amount in which you do this really makes your writing (and your life) seem in-genuine and calculated. You may think I'm rude or harsh, but I know I am not the only one the feels this way. Just some food for thought....

PS. You are starting to look like Cher, get a haircut

    1. Hi Andrea! First of all, thanks for not leaving your criticism anonymously. Refreshing! Second of all, I understand that there have been a cluster of company/restaurant etc shout outs lately, but I suppose thats just the nature of a blog (they tend to ebb and flow in their content). I'm sorry it's disappointed you. I should probably warn you that it's my plan to incorporate more posts about things to do/eat/go/etc in Austin, because my focus in life is changing to marketing my photography business (something that earns me more legit income that we really need right now), and building relationships with local businesses and readers is becoming more of a priority. I won't bore you with all of the logistics of this, but I understand if it turns some people (such as yourself) away. That's a price I'm willing to pay. As always, though, it will continue to be my goal to please as many readers as possible and keep you all coming back for more. So, in that sense, I appreciate your criticism and will take it into account!

As for the CherHair comment (which was pretty unnecessary and backhanded, btw), I must partially agree with you. I desperately need a haircut, and bought a Groupon for one a few weeks ago. Plan to use it this week! I think you're in the minority, though, as I get countless compliments online and in real life on my hair. It IS getting a little out of control, though, so a trim and shape-up is imminent!

Lastly, I'd like to rewrite your comment for you in an effort to show that leaving criticism doesn't HAVE to be bitchy. There's a nice and diplomatic way to say everything.

"Hi Jenni, I just wanted to let you know I've been a bit disappointed by your posts lately. I certainly don't want to sound mean or hurtful, but I wanted to give you some food for thought. It seems like in almost every post you're shouting out to companies/blogs/restaurants/etc, and it just seems a little ungenuine to me. In my opinion, it's caused the quality of your blog to drop. I hope this will just be some constructive criticism for you. Have a good weekend!"

The "you are starting to look like Cher, get a haircut" part should be left off entirely. It just makes you look and sound like a bitch. I've acknowledged several times in the last couple weeks alone that I know I need a haircut, so insulting me by saying I look like an extremely scary looking celebrity IS unnecessarily rude and harsh. It actually kind of makes me want to disregard the whole rest of your criticism, because I don't really value to the opinions of people who are purposefully mean to others.

Well, there's my weirdly long reply. Hope you have a great day, and are treated with grace and dignity by all those you meet. (I mean that)

    2. Great response to such a mean and unnecessary comment. You're amazing Jenni!

    3. I'm not usually one to agree with bloggers but really Jenni, you respond really well to criticism. It's refreshing. Better than the "I'll do what I want so everyone can suck it" generalized responses :)

    4. You and your blog are beautiful and inspiring as they always have been! I think your response to Andreas comment shows exactly what kind of person you are, a beautiful, dignified one! You have Grace! I adore that! Your hair is absolutely gorgeous and so are you inside and out! Thank you for handling such an ugly comment with such grace. Have a beautiful weekend friend!

    5. Jenni, maybe she likes Cher's hair?!?! lol...Seriously though, my respect for you just grew A LOT! You handled the comment so very well. I know bloggers talk about rude comments, but this is the first one I have ever read. Going so far as to address her concerns and help her reword her comment show that you CARE. :)

    6. Jenni, you are the sweetest, kindest and most genuine blogger I have ever 'met'. You can be so proud at your positive outlook on life and people and the mature way you can handle such situations.
All this has done, has made me respect you and your blog even more!!

Maybe Andrea should learn or realize how much help you are doing my featuring other blogs - being one of your features for today, I am so grateful for the shout out as I have met some beautiful bloggers through your blog. You have started great new friendships.

P.S. You have incredible hair that we are all super jealous of.

    7. Anna, Jenn, Hanna, Victoria, Caley... thanks ladies. Negative criticism isn't as fun to hear as praise, but it's necessary sometimes and I usually feel like I learn something from it. Being nasty is never necessary though. Not sure why most critics seem to feel it is.

  20. Fisrt of all....Yay on your new Bike! I am so jealous, I wanted to buy one when I lived 2 miles from work but never found the perfect one and then we moved 21 miles from work. BUT they did just finish a bike way that runs through our backyard, so I might have to look into one again.
Second.... I envy you for the way you replyed to that person above. Im not going to lie, I ALWAYS come to your blog everytime you post and on Fridays I usually just skim through to see if anything catches my eye, but I don't think it's necessary to say "hey, your Friday posts suck" (which they don't, it's just something I might not be interested in). Good response! And I'm sure you can go a few more months without a haircut, some people just don't understand the curlyness! Have a great weekend :)

    1. I totally understand, Sarah, I almost always skip sponsor posts on other blogs too. I totally get that readers mostly read for the blogger's actual content, not the advertorial stuff. This is why I've been starting out my Friday posts with a real post now. It was one of my New Year's resolutions to increase the quality of posts on my blog. :)

  23. Jenni, I love this bike. I ride bikes as well but mine is generally because it's how I get to work. If only I rode one for fun! :) I'd totally get a cruiser :)

  24. I really love that bike. The color, the style everything.
A bike like this one is still on my wish list. I've always wanted one.

  25. I love love love your bike!! I have been drooling over a colorful beach cruiser with a basket and will definitely bite the bullet when this arctic chill lifts! My only worry is that such a cute bike will be target for hoodlums. (P.S you're response to that comment... so graceful!)

  26. Love your bike, have fun cruising around with your mom! Totally jealous :)

  27. Jenni- thank you so much for featuring me today! Being featured on bigger blogs gives us smaller bloggers a chance to grow, so for that I am grateful to you and for your page generosity!

I don't want to jump on a band wagon that isn't my business, but I have to admit before even reading "the comment" I was honestly thinking to myself, damn Jenni looks like she has really pretty hair. Then again if that reader came across my blog she'd surely think I have a dry broom on my head right now, which I do (see WUD post.)

Anyway, thanks again for having me. I don't always comment, but I always read.

  41. Hey Jenni, gosh, I'm sorry about that girl saying those mean comments! I read what she said, and I was like , 'Oh no she didn't!'.
But you responded in a great way, and it was nice of you to respond at all, since you didn't have to.
And sure, you're hair is long....who cares?! If only matters to you, and I think it looks great. I was actually thinking of your hair the other day(yeah, that sounded weird), and thinking how I wish I had long hair like you! Anyway. Back to your post, I love your bike!! And the basket on it! That was so nice of your Mom to get you one :) And love the yellow color. That's really cute how she wants to have someone to ride a bike with. I don't think I've seen my Mom on a bike in forever, so that's cool for you guys :)
