A dress for the end of the world

Well my friends, if the world ends tomorrow, it's been so nice knowing you. I figured I'd go out with a bang in a pretty party dress.  I also figured that if we rise from the ashes, rebuild society, and hook back up to the Internet, I'd like to be discovered in something exceedingly fashionable and also affordable, thanks to my friends over at Tailor & Stylist (the best new shop, y'all - coupon code below!!).

Anyway, yesterday was something of a disastrous day. I have a to do list 2.7 miles long and yet somehow I found myself sitting in a doctor's office with my husband all afternoon (WHY are doctors forever running behind? WHY do we have to call them if we're running late, and yet we get no notice when THEY are running late?), and then, after two hours of twiddling my thumbs in the waiting room (my phone died after about 15 minutes - then I had to do things like read grimy magazines and pace the room, growing more deranged by the moment... what did people do before cell phones??), we were finally on our way out, only to face wretched Austin rush-hour traffic.  (That was an inexcusably long sentence. Sometimes I like to see how far I can go without a period.)

Despite my having planned a rather elaborate dinner at home, we decided to hit the town for something fancy at Guero's Taco Bar, and on the way there we were distracted by Austin Pets Alive, where there was the most adorable little 8 month Pittie baby boy named Poncho (that name would HAVE to go), and we fell in love with him and wanted him and essentially turned into giant puddles of mush at one look from his amber-colored eyes (if you follow on Instagram, you saw some rather blurry pictures of his sweetness!). We tore ourselves away to have our tacos and forced ourselves to sleep on it. Ultimately, I think we've decided it would be an exceptionally horrible idea to get a third dog right now, but that doesn't mean we won't do it. If you start to see photos of Poncho on this blog, it means we did it. If not, it means we didn't.

Here's more shots of my end of the world outfit (which will probably be my New Year's Eve outfit as well, if the world doesn't wind up ending after all...)

yes, Texas hasn't realized that it's late Decemeber. it thinks it's just now fall...

  7. I LOVE that dress! I have a NYE Cocktail party to attend this year (in NYC, yay!) and this dress would be perfect! It's exactly what I've been looking for. Just enough sparkle so I don't look like the ball in Time Square. Also, saw pics of the pup on instagram last night. So adorable!!

  15. Guero's Taco Bar?!? Awww, that was our first stop after arriving to Austin {from NC}. It was per recommendation and it did not disappoint! Those house margaritas {? I don't really remember} were awesome! And they had a HUGE gluten free menu! Win!!

  19. You are one gorgeous lady!!!! Love the dress. :) It didn't sound like you were soliciting opinions about Poncho, but if my vote counts for anything, here it is: "DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO EEEEEEEEEEEET!" I just got a puppy last week, bringing our total to 4, yes, FOUR dogs. We are probably slightly crazy. But Charlie girl is such a sweetie and already I can't imagine life without her. Are you convinced yet? Let me know if you'd like help creating justification... :)

    1. yep, it's the sea green dress! It is a little more teal than it looks in the pictures. It's more true to the color it is on the model pictures on the site! :)

  22. we have three dogs... we once had five. then four. and now we just have the original three (our house is like field of dreams for stray dogs... if you build it- duh, it's built!- they will come...). i say do it. because there's not much difference.... (;

    also, beautiful dress! seriously. the length, the keyhole, the sequins.. it's perfect to fight zombies in (;

  23. oohhhmmyyyy. just saw your instagram. i'm not one to encourage adopting dogs if you feel you can't take another one on.. but sweeet heavens adopt him! a baby pittie boy! gah. one of my best friend's and i saved a pit from NYC's ACC's death row this weekend and I met him yesterday and he's a baby pittie boy, too, and I just melted. Pits so very much especially need people to champion for them, to show the world there is literally nothing wrong with them and that their reputation is phooey. Side note: how great is the word phooey? :) Happy last day of the world!

  24. I love your long hair! I'm having hair cutting remorse looking at yours! :) I hope you get to wear this dress for NYE too :)

  26. you are no longer allowed to make comments about flatchestedness because you totally aren't and therefore do not actually understand what it's like.

  27. You're just too gorgeous, Jenni! Love the dress. And yes, Poncho looks like a sweet boy from your Instagram pics. My hubby and I have been torn about getting a Pit/Lab mix that we found out about on Monday. He needs a home and today is our final day to decide if we're taking him or not! He's such a beautiful boy, but I don't know if I can handle another dog! UGH!!!

  28. I love this dress and your GORGEOUS HAIR!! Seriously. My hair is envious.

  34. Shoot. I 'deleted' my comment for spelling errors, and not I have to write it all over again! Grr.
    But I pretty much said:
    Love the dress! And the color too. I really like that kind of green color.
    I have zero dresses. Yep. You read that write. I need to start doing things that require me to wear them. Sometimes I wish people still dressed up like that though. In their day to day life. With the women looking all pretty, and the men handsome in their suits.
    But this whole 'End of the World' stuff is just weird. Wasn't the world freaked out when it became 2000? I think they were. Because of technology or something. Anyway. I don't think it'll end. Unless it really WILL end, and this will be the last thing I every say and my words will come back to haunt me.....

  44. That dress (and you) are gorgeous!

    Also, on the whole doctor's office wait thing, for the unexpected appointments that come up you have to remember that doctors have emergencies and you'd probably be grateful for the line jump if you were in that situation too. As for general waits, I tend to call my doctor's office before I leave the house for my scheduled appointment and they give me a general idea of how long it will be. I don't get too fussed about waiting as long as the doctor takes time with me as well when it is my turn. The mark of a good doctor and doctor's office is not necessarily in having the smallest wait time, but in making everyone's wait worth it by giving their full attention to the current patient and not rushing to diagnose and prescribe. Just another way of looking at it. Sorry if that sounded preachy, it wasn't meant to be.
