The day all my dreams came true.

Ok, so maybe not ALL my dreams. But I had this fully romanticized notion of what it would be like to pick apples from an orchard on a chilly autumn day, and Carter Mountain in Virginia delivered. On the way there you pass rolling hills and beautiful farmland, thick forests and lush vegetation, Monticello where Thomas Jefferson once lived, and then... then! You turn onto a side road and start to climb up the mountain. You climb and climb and climb through the forest (in the car, of course), until you wonder if you'll ever reach the top. But then you start to see peach trees, and then lots of clear blue sky, and then, BAM! Apple barn! Vineyards! Orchard for miles! Breathtaking scenery! Pumpkin patch! You're on the top of the mountain with a freaking APPLE ORCHARD!

I almost wet myself. Ask Kristin.

Here's way too many photos from one of the best days of my life.

 the perfect apple.

cider donuts!

 an apple cider slushy!

'Til next time, Carter Mountain Orchard!

  2. Hmmm...I'm noticing a photo trend here. I like to call it, "Slump-and-lean-so-you-don't-look-taller-than-Jenni". Next visit: you bring heels. ;-) Regardless of my slumpage, it sure was a fun day!

  3. Yeah, that's like a fun day for regular people, let alone blogger/photographer. I'd die. How you don't Instagram every 5 minutes is amazing. You have a some strong willpower.

  5. I went apple picking for the first time two weeks ago -- so much fun! (And I was in Virginia, too -- at Graves Mountain Farm near Culpeper. Gorgeous!) Love the photos -- feel like I went on the trip, too. And apple cider slushies are amazing. They're my new calling in life.

  12. OMG Apple picking is a requirement for me every fall! I’m lucky enough to be within 15 minutes of about 6 apple orchards (2 of them are wineries too!). Also, cider donuts are the BEST! I haven’t had one yet this season but maybe I’ll have to change that this weekend!

    Great pictures!

  19. Whatever floats your boat Jenni.

Whenever I see apples I think of Twilight. Whenever I think of Twilight I think of Kristin Stewart and how I don't like her at all OR Twilight. Harry Potter, right. Harry Potter.

We waited in line for donuts & cider slushies for 45 minutes. I kid you not. But we found ourselves a decent bag of fuji's so life is good! I am so glad you enjoyed Carter Mountain! Fall is lovely down there, so I'm glad you were able to experience it! The hubs and I now live in the suburbs of Philadelphia where the seasons are even more distinct - you should see the gorgeous colors of the trees! Anyway, I'm glad you had a nice trip & were able to experience a "real" Fall! :)

  62. Hearing how excited you were to see an orchard made me feel extremely blessed to grow up having an orchard/vineyard owned by my extended family. I can completely relate to loving it and feeling like it is the most wonderful spot in the world though, they're special that way.
