First of all, I would just like to say WOW on the response to yesterday's post. Writing it was sort of an afterthought late Tuesday night--the product of being fed up with myself and my habits, and just wanting to get it all out there for accountability's sake. I didn't realize that so, so many of us are struggling with the exact same thing. How awesome that we can be more aware now, and take steps towards "reform!" I am trying out some new techniques this morning. I prayed and meditated on the day to come instead of checking my phone as I had my coffee, and now I have more of a "game plan" for the day written out in list form. Also, my phone is turned on completely silent and stowed away in my desk drawer for now (only to be checked after I complete tasks), and I have an old fashioned, ticking timer beside me on the desk to remind me how much time I'm allotting for certain things. We'll see how today goes! We can do this!

On another note, yesterday my mom and I visited a new joint in town called Hillside Farmacy, which is a way cool, converted old pharmacy turned restaurant on the east side. It was SO fabulous! Pretty much a blogger/photographer's dream, with lots of fun things to take pictures of. (and the food was awesome, too!)
There were salvaged old pharmacy cabinets and drawers still complete with their antique drug labels, framed old prescription slips, mason jars, old fashioned milk bottles, and... well, I'll let the photos do the talking. If you're in Austin, you simply MUST stop in this place. I highly recommend the Watermelon Salad and the Mac & Cheese. To die for.

awesome, so glad your day is off to a more organized start! That one shot of the macaroon looks like it was shot with a f/1.2! gorgeous :)
ReplyDeleteSeriously, Jenni, you find the coolest and cutest places in town. Because of you, I now have a list of "places to go"! :)

that place looks perfect! good luck with your new system :).
ReplyDeleteLook how beautiful your hair looks....all shiny and full of volume!!!!
ReplyDeleteI like the new system. I put one in place this morning to. I am only allowed to check my emails every hour starting at 06:30 (I have an early start to my work day) and my phone is on silent. No FB and Twitter during working hours (that's been painful)and I am only allowed to read blogs after working hours.
I failed miserably at the not reading blogs thing but stuck to the rest pretty well. It is surprising how much I got done between email checks. I also prioritized incoming emails into what required urgent attention and what could wait. The urgent stuff I added to my "to do" list and the not so urgent had to wait until my "to do" list was done. Worked out pretty well but then again today was a slow day with only a few interruptions. Not sure how it will be on a crazy day.
Oh I also moved my quite time to before bed when I switch all technology off.
Thank you so much for writing the post, it makes me feel like I am not alone in this life change thing!!!
My husband and I still haven't made the trip from Houston to Austin, but when we do, I'll just make sure I consult SOML for recommendations first. ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh man, what a cute lil restaurant slash antique pharmacy!! So jealous of your discoveries and photog abilities. Just sayin...
ReplyDeleteYou make me smile Every. Single. Day.
SO cute!!! Good luck on your new system!! :)
ReplyDeleteI will be going there on my next visit to Austin! It sort of reminds me of East Side Cafe..is it at all similar?
ReplyDeleteA good friend of mine posted some pics on IG of this place. I had not heard of it until this week. It is now on my list to visit. We are so lucky to have so many tucked away jewels in Austin. And good with today! You can do it!

ah this is amazing! My sister is currently living in Austin and now I just want to go visit her if only for that restaurant. Those old pill bottles! How cool! (especially cool to me because my boyfriend is studying to get his doctorate of pharmacy)
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute place...and great pics as always :)

Would you ever consider offering a photography tutorial course? I would so sign up. Beautiful Pictures, you always find the most unique places.
ReplyDeleteGlad your plans are working better so far! Seriously, keep sharing what you are doing, what works, and what doesn't. It will be good for ALL of us. :)
ReplyDeleteLove this little place to eat. It looks so old and yet so inviting. Somebody did a great job at making it "new"! As always, you look like you had a good time and brought some awesome shots home.
Here's to a great rest of the day.
this place looks adorable and the food looks TO DIE FOR. especially that sandwich. I'm starving. ha
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness...that place is freaking adorable. And everything you ate looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteHow cute is this place!? I can't believe I haven't been! As the Mr. is in pharmacy school, I think he'd thoroughly enjoy it. It reminds me of the pharmacy building at UT, they have the most beautiful hundred year old pharmacy cabinets, jars, mortals and pestles just chillin' in the hallways. I feel like they should be in a museum somewhere, not just hanging out next to the men's restroom for students to accidentally bump into, haha. We'll have to try this place out!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun place! Your post just reminded me that I miss taking pictures when I'm out at restaurants, hehe :)
ReplyDeleteI really wish we had more unique places like this where I live! And you look gorgeous in that photo! Good luck with your new "gameplan" today! :)
ReplyDeleteSuch wonderful photos! You really are so talented!

what a cool idea for a restaurant. your pics keep getting better and better.
ReplyDeleteThis place looks lovely! And gorgeous pictures, as always.
ReplyDeleteMe too, me too! Meaning, I've done my reform things today, too, and so far, so good :)
ReplyDeleteMy friend introduced me to this method, which has a name, which I can't remember for the life of me, of course, where you set your timer for 25 minutes and you do whatever task it is that you need to do for 25 minutes, no distractions or interruptions. It's amazing how effective it is at keeping me on task and how my productivity goes through the roof when I do this. Even if said task is not completed after 25 mins, after the time is up, you're allowed a "break", during which you can do whatever (FB, twitter, ya know). Then you return to your work and work for another 25 mins. Seriously, try it.
Yay for fighting ADD!
xoxo J
It looks like such a lovely place, :)
ReplyDeleteThat place looks so cool. Austin is like a place of hidden treasures. :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like such a fun place to spend the day. I thought of you when I was out at a coffee shop in New York last weekend -- I tried to chronicle the place through photos! :) Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteAmazing pictures, that place looks so cute!
ReplyDeleteI think the outpouring of support and suggestions says a lot about the blog world. While it definitely isn't immune to negativity, it allows so many like-minded people to connect with and support each other. Which is totally amazing. Sometimes knowing you aren't alone in a struggle takes away the shame of beginning to acknowledge it and moving on try and fix things.
It totally is a blogger's dream!!
ReplyDelete(bloglovin is taking me in reverse order these days, so I'll read "yesterday's post" a little bit later)
Oh, and fun story! My parents recently went on vacation in Vancouver and stayed at a bed and breakfast and my mom started taking pictures of the food because "her daughter does it all the time and she wanted to keep up". My mother said next thing she knew everybody else was taking pictures of their food too. It amused me :)
