Li’L Bro

storyboardtest008IMG_8103-1

A number of you expressed surprise and curiosity last week when I mentioned this little brother I’d never met, and for good reason, I suppose. I’ve never mentioned Joseph (that’s his name) on the blog before, I guess just because he hasn’t been a part of my life, nor I his. He was born in Korea when my dad used to live there (Joseph’s mom is from the Philippines), then they all moved to New Jersey, and now they’ve settled down in Georgia.  I really hope to see him more often, because he is just the coolest and smartest little guy. Case in point: he beat me at checkers, twice, and I was trying. Did I mention that he’s five?  Also, he LOVES pictures. He’ll pose on cue, every time, then demand to see the shots immediately afterwards. Little guy after my own heart!

Anyway, when it comes to family and personal things, readers should always assume that a blog is just a sampling of someone’s life. There are always things left out. Sometimes intentionally, or sometimes because they simply don’t apply to the theme of the blog. In this case, there’s certainly a back story, but not one I’ll probably tell. Bottom line: I have a super cute little bro, and I hope to be a bigger part of his life in the future!

Here’s a few photos from around the condo in Florida…

  1. I love your comment about personal things on the blog. Not every little detail can be shared with the world wide web! But, I'm glad you shared a tiny bit about that little guy. He's certainly a cutie. :)

  2. Wow so cool that you got to meet him. What a cool little guy. I totally get the whole not blogging about every little personal detail thing...I have started so many "too personal" blog posts and have never posted them bc of that same reason.

  3. Sweet little Joseph! I enjoyed all our many "matching games"! Ha! He is such a smart little guy, and was a bonus to our trip for sure :-)

  5. What a handsome little man! I think its great that you have such a young sibling. He will look up to you and you will be able to watch him grow and mature. I'm glad you had a lovely time in Florida. And I cannot wait to hear about Harry Potter World.. especially how those butter beers tasted :)

  8. Perfect way to satiate the curiosity whilst protecting your business (as in, 'mind your own'). He is adorable, and I hope, for y'all, that this is the beginning of a long and wonderful relationship. GA is a pretty excellent place to grow up, although I might be biased :)

  9. So nicely said Jenni... I enjoyed seeing the pictures. Love you immensely.

  10. So cool,I'm sure for both of you to be able to meet and you're right some details are meant to be private. What would be intriguing about us if we shared all, right??;)

  11. I agree with you about leaving some things out. I see blogging as a professional activity (at least it can be) and if it doesn't fit the theme, it shouldn't be there. If it compromises the content or your heart, it shouldn't be there. And he is the most adorable little thing!

  12. ...and now i know.

loved the pics jennie, especially the one of your grandma and the dead knight!

  15. Jenni, he is adorable! I'm sure you had a great time getting to know him a bit. Very true on what we put out there, we can't always share everything!

YES and amen. EVERYONE should remember that. always.

I was pretty surprised how forthright some people were about asking about your brother...there is only so much one CAN share and or is willing to share on their blog. I think we all forget that sometimes.

all that said, he is a CUTIE.

  17. I agree. Not every single detail on one's life needs to be on display. I know there are some bloggers who like it that way, but no one should feel obligated.

And I will agree that he is absolutely precious!

  18. This was a really great post. I have a younger brother and sister that I really don't know. Family stuff is complicated. Family helps to form who you are, but it doesn't define who you are. Glad you got to spend time with him. And I seriously cannot wait to hear about HP World. Beyond Jealous.

  19. honestly your brother is beautiful! His skin tone and his eyes...he will be a heartbreaker someday!

  20. I definitely wondered the story about your little brother too....Like you said, not everyblittle detail about our lives is in our blogs so I just assumed that this was one of your details that hadn't come up yet! What a cuttie, though! I love it when kids get into having their picture taken.

Lookng forward to your Harry Potter post!

  21. Aww he's so cute. How do kids sit with there knees together like that ouch??!

  22. I agree. Not everything needs to be on a blog. A sampling of someone's life is the perfect way to explain a blog. :)

I love that last picture. Its great and conveys boys perfectly.

  23. what a cute little guy!

"sampling" is the perfect way to explain it. as open as I try to be with the blog, there's still a lot I keep to myself. I think that's perfectly okay. :)

Can't wait to hear about HP World!!

  24. he is adorable! i agree, little boys are so easy to love!

and it is so true. not everything will make our blog. yes, it is about our life but not our whole lives.

glad you were able to spend some time with your lil bro :)

  25. fair enough. you have a right to keep anything you want private. and i respect that choice :) either way, story or not, he's adorable. glad you had a chance to connect with him :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. well i was going to write something totally sarcastic, but for some reason it doesnt seem fitting...

that face is just TOO stinking cute! i mean, seriously?! that little child exists and YOU are lucky enough to call him your little bro.. i find that AWESOME!

but dont say you went to harry potter without him.. maybe he's too young, but oh my, i bet he would be SUPER jealous if he didnt get to go, sis... (:

    ReplyDelete
  27. mmmhmmm i do the same thing. pretty much all the time. Sometimes I want to write everything down that's going on and hit publish - but i know that most of the time, its not appropriate.

you have a beautiful little brother.

  28. What an adorable little boy! I hope you have fun getting to know him, and I know exactly what you mean about not sharing everything on your blog. Some things are meant to be private -- even though it may seem that you are sharing your life with the world. I can't wait for my little guy to beat me a checkers :)

  29. He's a cutie! Glad you got to meet your little brother and I hope you guys have many more visits with each other :)

  30. I loved your comment on sharing personal things. That is so great that you do have a relationship with your little brother though you just met him recently.

  31. your photographs are beautiful!!! you have a talent :) and your little bro is super cute.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Aw, what a sweet little guy! I'm not sure if you can see it, but he looks a lot like you.

Good point about privacy. Some people assume that writing a blog means you share everything about your life, but some things need to and should stay private. It's good to have healthy boundaries.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Definitely agree with your comment about personal stuff. There just comes a line where it's best not to share everything - once it's on the internet, it's always on the internet! I'm so glad that you got to meet your brother, he is very handsome and sounds extremely smart!

  36. First, I have to say that your little brother is an adorable little man! What a heartbreaker he appears to be. :) I'm actually surprised that you were asked for more personal details. Your private life is exactly that - yours to keep or share how you deem fit. What you share is your prerogative and maybe I'm just the minority here but I truly feel that a person's privacy should be respected at all times and your readers should be satisfied with whatever you're comfortable sharing - nothing more.

On a more personal note: I, too, have siblings that I met later in life. I'm not really comfortable sharing the details with the world on a public comment board but just thought I'd let you know that someone else out there has been in your shoes. (One of my sisters and I celebrate our "meeting anniversary" each year LOL. I think it's really cool but not something everyone understands.)

Your pictures are always gorgeous, your family is beautiful and I really just wanted to say that this particular story brought back some great memories for me, thinking back to when I got to have a "sibling meeting". :)

  39. Your brother is just the cutest. So happy that you are happy to have him in your life! Everyone's lives have interesting stories and not all blogs need to divulge everything. I appreciate discretion that is approrpriately applied. =)

    ReplyDelete
  40. I think we, as readers, can and should respect the writer's decisions on how much they share. We all try to share as much as we feel comfortable with the internet, but some things we can keep close to our hearts :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. Wow Jenni, you surprised me with this post! I didn't expect you to show your brother to us!
Please don't feel you had to do that. I feel bad if you did, since I was one of those readers who was so surprised you didn't mention a brother. How selfish of me to say that. It's your life, your blog! I was kidding when I said that though, but still.
But since you did, I have to say your little brother is very cute :)

  42. Always wanted a little bro. I'm glad you had a chance to meet him!

  43. Aww what an adorable little man! I'm so glad you finally got to meet him, Jenni! :-)

And so sorry for some readers who ask you such personal questions without even thinking if it's ok with you to divulge such information on the world wide web.

Anyway, great photos! And I hope you'll get to spend more time with your little brother. Take care and God bless, Jenni! :-)

  44. The way I see it is that people get so tuned into peoples lives through blogs and vlogs etc that they feel like a 'friend' is holding back on them or not sharing every detail of their lives if they keep something back.

While I understand, I am one of those who thinks that not every detail of a bloggers life needs to be broadcast on their blog. There is a certain part of my own life that I would never blog about only because it affects more than just myself and quite frankly, it would would not add any benefit to my space.

Thank you for sharing what you do but never feel obliged to share any more than you feel comfortable with. Those that love your blog won't mind and those that do don't matter. :D

Your little Bro is just adorable. Reminds me of my cousins when they were little.

  45. So nice that you and your sis got to spend time with your lil' bro! That last picture tooootally reminds me of my little brother at that age. My little bro's thing was G.I. Joe's, and he would set them up just like those army men in your picture! :-)

  46. What a beautiful photo of your grandma :)

  47. Such beautiful photos! I'm so glad you got to meet your brother, he seems like such an incredible little guy.

I, like many others, really loved your comment on sharing personal life things on blogs. Often we as readers, and bloggers ourselves, forget that we aren't necessarily seeing the whole picture. While it is wonderful to feel connected to someone's life through this method of communication, it is quite different than seeing it in it's day-to-day form. In my opinion, this isn't a bad thing.

Sometimes comments requesting to see certain aspects of the stuff you gloss over on the blog can probably seem invasive, so I completely apologize if curious readers have ever caused you to share more than you're comfortable with.

Looking forward to reading about the rest of your trip!

  48. I totally relate to not telling everything on your blog, it's something I still struggle with myself on every post I make (having a blog as a private person is maybe a contradiction).

I think we're blessed to have a peek into the life of the wonderful person that's you and what you share with us, is completely your own business.

If you wouldn't have told us about him, we wouldn't have known. So we're thankful that you did share it with us.

And that's one cute little bro. He's gorgeous and you two looks so cute together :-) And as always your pics ... no words :-)
