May Showers

I love stormy days. LOVE THEM. Maybe it’s because rain is scarce here in Texas, and when we do have thunderstorms, they tend to be in the middle of the night when you can’t really enjoy them so much… especially when your 55 lb pitbulls attempt to directly adhere themselves to your sleeping body, as if actually being on top of Mommy will protect them from the thunder.
(Ok, what am I saying here? I love that. Thunderstorm cuddles are the best.)
Point is, this week we’ve had some really excellent stormy days and nights, though they always leave me yearning for more. I think I’d be right at home in a place like Seattle. Rain, to me, always feels like release.
Plus I get to wear my red wellies. Winning all around.

I know. I am clear. (the stage that comes right after white.)  Also, that adorable dress I’m wearing above came courtesy of a new online shop called Kiki La’Rue, which is definitely worth checking out!  They have a great variety of adorable and affordable dress options (like this one and this one and this one!), as well as super cute tops and handbags.  I love to support smaller shops that are dedicated to quality and customer service, as this one clearly is. This dress is comfy and looks super cute paired with bright pops of color in a necklace or, in this case, red rain boots. :)

  1. I love a good thunderstorm. We get crazy storms here in Gabon - like I've never seen before. Always enjoyable unless you get stuck driving in them when the roads flood and water goes over your hood!

  4. I was just saying yesterday how May had more showers than April, weird!
    But I don't mind it either, it's good for an afternoon nap and night sleep :D

  7. Oh yes, I love a good stormy day too...well, to be perfectly honest, I DID. Before I cut shorter bangs a few weeks ago. And 12 out of 14 days have been rainy since then. So I look like I have a constant halo of untamable frizz around my face now. It's pretty hot. But as soon as my bangs grow long enough again to put behind my ear, I'll be back to loving the rainy days! I'm deep like that.

  10. I totally agree. the rain has been amazing these past few days! It was fun, I talked to my sister in Austin & she said it was pouring and by the time we were off the phone, it was pouring here & done there :)

  11. It has been raining for weeks on end here, or so it seems. I told my friends that nature just wanted to make sure I was prepared for my move to Seattle next month. It's working.

  13. I love storms too but the Seattle rain DEFINITELY gets old. We are just coming into our 4 months of sunshine so hopefully we have a great, sunny summer. Your outfit is so cute by the way!

    as for storms - as long as i'm not required to do anything but bake chocolate chip cookies, curl up by the fire with a good book, and dance in the rain - then i love them :)

  20. I l-o-v-e stormy weather. It's my favorite!!! I will even mute the TV so I can hear the rumble rumble of thunder. Surprisingly, our pets sleep through the storm!

    You look so pretty and I swear, those boots DO go with the outfit. ;)

    P.S. I am ghostly pale. I LOVE IT!

  22. I just moved to San Antonio from Seattle and let me tell you that Seattle has nothing on the type of thunderstorms you have here! I can't believe how loud the thunder gets sometimes :-/. Funny thing is I almost bought a pair of wellies just before we moved here but Husband insisted I would never need them in Texas. I'd say he was wrong and based on how cute they look on you I think that I should reconsider! :)

  24. Jenni, steer clear of Seattle! The rain is too constant to enjoy! Lol..I haven't been here a year yet, maybe I'll get use to it eventually, but I'm missing the sunny days in VA badly!!

  25. Thunderstorms are amazing- it's the #1 thing my husband and I have consistently missed since leaving the SE. In GA we used to have clock-work 5 PM thunderstorms the whole month of August- afterwards, the lightning bugs come out and so do the people, with sweet tea and lemonade... *sigh* Enjoy the storms, I'm a bit jealous if you can't tell!!

  29. so, i have a friend who is very white. i mean, very. recently, she was laughing at how glaring her legs had become.

    i told her, "embrace it...you are milky white and it's beautiful."

    at the time, another friend overheard our conversation. "what is milky white?" she asked. dumbfounded at the term. "oh," i responded, "leah's skin."

    "as it should be," the eavesdropper replied. she stopped in her tracks and said, "that is the most racist thing i've ever said!!"

  30. As an Oregonian, I too love the rain. But believe me... you wouldn't like living in Seattle. Or Oregon. We don't really have "storms". We have dreary days with showers. They ruin your hair and make you feel gloomy after the first month or so. After 8 months of grey skies, you feel like you would do ANYTHING to get some stinkin' sunshine.

  35. One of the reasons I moved to Seattle was because of all the rain. I've loved it ever since I was a little girl. People kept saying, "You'll get sick of all that rain." And you know what? Five years there and not once did I complain.

  42. You look good in clear. I am transparent, which is almost the same as clear. I've been refraining from tanning too this year -- probably the first summer since I was 18 that I haven't tanned. I feel self-concious about it but I try to ignore it. lol

  46. I am also a lover of thunderstorms and rain (as long as the bottoms of my pants don't get wet and stick to me, then I get aggravated)

    I love the dress! I am heading over to the shop right now to check everything out. I'm not purchasing clothes right now as I am on a weight loss journey but I certainly can bookmark a few of my favorites for when I get to my ideal weight!

    It really does feel like a release, and there is such a newly cleansed feeling that follows such a violent storm.

  49. I'm the complete opposite! I HAAAATTTEEE thunderstorms - the thunder always spooks me (but secretly, I like the pretty lightening). I got lucky because my dogs don't mind the thunderstorms, although a cuddle fest would be fun ;)

  50. We've had so much rain here that I'm considering selling my car and learning how to sail :-)
    I love the red wellies - one of my favourite colours and definitely the best way to brighten up an otherwise dreary day. Sadly I noticed this morning that my faithful old boots have sprung leaks... of course, I found this out by stepping into the middle of a giant puddle. Oh well, at least I have an excuse to go get another pair now!

  54. I wish you didn't feel the need to use self-deprecating humor about the lack of "tan." Tanning is dangerous. Just be proud you won't have as many wrinkles as the other sun-worshipers (not to mention the risk of cancer!). You are beautiful just the way you are!
