It's a SAFARI at MY house! (Show Us Where You Live Friday)

I'm a little grumbly about Kelly's choice of room this week, but I'm posting nonetheless!

The office at our home may be the one and only room without so much as a fingerprint of mine on just about anything.  When my husband and I were married and moved to Austin this past February, more than one "discussion" took place about where all of the "animals" would go.  Let's just say Matthew is big time into hunting and I'm - well - not.  Nor do animal heads and skins necessarily fit into my style of decor.  So yes, there were "discussions."  And what we agreed on was a few heads in the living room (ok, four) and then as many as Matthew could reasonably fit into his office.  Hence, the Safari Room.

Your eyes do not deceive you. That is a real, entire zebra on the wall. Most people have faux zebra print pillows and rugs, we have an actual zebra pelt flattened and nailed across an entire wall. So sad. Poor buddy.

You may also notice that, in the bottom right hand corner of the photo, there is a strange... thing.  That is an elephant foot, dear readers.  An elephant foot storage container.  It has disgusting yellow nails and is the most revolting thing I think I've ever seen in my life.  Not cool.

There are also a few more mounts on walls you can't see in this picture.  My point is, I feel about eight judging eyes on me whenever I step foot in this room, so I just don't.

MY "office" is tucked away in a hallway upstairs, but I don't actually use it much, nor is it anywhere near what I want it to be.

I'm still deciding how to best organize and decorate this space, but it's not much of a priority because I do most of my "work" sitting on the couch with my laptop in the living room.  So maybe we'll revisit my little office space another day!

If you're interested, check out our dining room and kitchen too (just trying to redeem myself here)! ;)  Thanks so much for stopping by!!!

  2. Oh my goodness! Your husbans office cracks me up! My husband has warned me that when he gets a buck that he will have the head mounted and hung in our house... He doesn't hunt much, but when he does I always pray for no bucks lol and so far it's worked!

And I love your office nook! I think it's awesome.

  3. Well I like your office... but I think you should throw away all the dead animals when your husband is not looking!

  10. Haha I don't blame you for not wanting to step a foot in there! I'm not a big fan of animal heads, etc either.

But your 'office nook' is cute!

  12. Hi Jenni! Thank you for stopping by my blog! So glad you found me, so now I have found you!! Yiur blog is so cute. You and your hubby are about the cutest couple I've ever "met!"

So the office ... Hmm ... well, Matthew gets one room in the house, and thank goodness it is just one, right?! I think the zebra is actually really neat ... the elephant foot and deer heads just don't do it for me! HA!

And giiirl, your kitchen and dining room - I die! LOVE THEM BOTH!! I absolutely am loving the idea of those brick 'tiles' for an accent wall - very chic and warm feeling!

    Can't wait to follow you!

  15. My condolences on your "safari"! That IS a challenge they don't counsel you about when you get married: joint decorating :-) Just found your blog today, and I love it here! I appreciate your honesty...and it was fun to see so much of myself in your "about me" page.- Btw, I went back and looked at your dining room makeover, and I love that brick wall that you did. I just informed my husband that we need to have a brick wall in our next home. Also, thank you for that inspirational post about putting things in perspective. You're right. We need to love and live with all our hearts! Who knows when our time will be up.- Anyway, nice to meet you! ~Kristin from Windy Poplars

  18. Sometimes you just have to let the husband have his one room to decorate and let it fly :) My husband has the rec room and put a lava lamp on the mantle. Oh well. Love your office nook!

  20. Our office might as well have a line down the middle. It's half my hubs - messy and disorganized and techy - and half mine - floral, neat, and feminine. We'd kill each other if we had to share a desk.

  21. I think it is great that your husband has a neat room like this. If he is passionate about hunting, I'm sure he appreciates being able to have this room. My brother went on a hunting trip to Africa this year and his house will soon be looking a lot like this! :) Just came across your blog tonight... nice to 'meet' you!

  28. This made me laugh! Aaron has a "man room". He is a HUGH hunter & fisherman and I too, and.. well NOT! [haha] He can do whatever he wants in his man room. He has ONE basket on the table in the living room where he can put anything he wants in it [It's Huntins Season here in GA] as long as it is in the basket!
So, I feel ya on this one! :D

  29. I know I'm really late to the party but just catching up on your past blog posts and this one is hilarious! My husband had a mountain lion mounted on the wall when we first moved in together - mind you we are both vegetarians and everyone thought we were making some sort of ironic statement but nope, he just ADORED that big hunk of dead lion inexplicably. I lived with it for a year and then told him I couldn't stand those eyes on me all the time. You are such a trouper for letting your husband keep all his "pets" :)
